Hello, I'M MAYA

/* Software Engineer Intern at Microsoft */

/* Computer Science Student at UCL */

I'm 21. I was born and raised in Tehran, Iran. Then one day I decided to make a crazy decision and move to a country named United Kingdom to study some random course, computer science. Not like I've been coding since 7 or anything like that, I just happened to like maths, and CS was the only attractive option for me among all the other Engineering and science courses.
So yeah, now, I'm a student developer . Like, I make stuff, and focus on learning things I don't know about, and feel like are important to me. If you wanna see some of the stuff I do, just take a look at sections bellow.
I have a passion for maths, puzzles, patterns and generally solving problems. I am up for making stuff at hackathons to improve my software engineering skills, do programming challenges, and do research (quite a noob researcher yet though :P I am trying to do some research in Graph theory, and am building up my knowledge in Machine Learning & Software Engineering methodologies to do research in the future.
Other than all these, I like reading a good book, taking photos, watching a good film and also skating from time to time.

At the moment, my whole life centres around the fact that I'm a MEng Computer Science Student at University College London. I have done loads of activities in regards to computer science and other stuff.

  • I'm the Events Director at UCLU Technology Society. I'm responsible for running events for students in our society to learn more about the new technologies companies use in their products and services.
  • I'm a Microsoft Student Partner. I am responsible for helping with organising Micrsoft events on campus. For example, I am a Cortana Intelligence Suite mentor at UCL Data Science Student Challenge in partnership with Microsoft.
  • I go to some Hackathons. I've been to HackCambridge, HackCambridge 2.0, OxfordHack, HackLondon, BrumHack and a number of others. Examples of the projects I made and learned stuff from are on GitHub.
  • I am a part of UCLU Ice Club as well. I like ice-skating from time to time.

Of course, we have a curriculum at university. Other than all the theory, maths and algorithms (My Course curriculum), we get to do a lot of university projects that happen to be with leading employers in the world, such as Microsoft and NHS.

  • Spoken Everywhere: An award winning app for NHS Trust, which reads out your books for you wherever you are. take a look at it here.
  • Spot Market Chatbot: Development of a chat-bot in partnership with Microsoft. The chat-bot is under development.
  • Scenario Weeks: These are one week student team challenges. We don't have any lectuers during these weeks, and are given a challenge to finish by the end of the week. There are really interesting topics for each challenge, such as Hacking a vulnerable website, Designing web browsers, DevOps challenges and Competitive Programming.

  • Summer 2011: Armeno Co. : I worked as a high school intern with the R&D Manager of Armeno Co. , a construction company in Tehran. I learned about Database Management Systems and Project Management methodologies. I learned about company's technological infrastructures. I also got involved in a translation team for contracts.
  • Winter and Spring 2016: HooHair : HooHair was a startup that focused on helping hair salons and their booking systems. I helped with the project during my term time as a web developer and app developer. This experience really helped me with improving my development skills in a team.
  • Summer 2016, Societe Generale : I worked as Software Engineering Intern at Societe Generale's London Office. I worked on development of a financial options trading tool. I worked on implementing a panel for system adminstrators who had to check virtual pricing services and their status, create an improved algorithm for pricings and do some research on the impact of different development factors on pricing speed. Other than learning about loads of technology stacks such as C#, WPF, WCF, LINQ etc., I learned about Agile and project management and getting involved in development of a huge software code base.
  • Summer 2017, Microsoft Ltd. : Specifically,I will be interning at Lift London, Microsoft Studios.

I am both theoretical and practical. I would rather to do my development projects in the teams I already have, but I don't know many people who want to work on a research topic at undergrad level. If you are interested in Graph theory, or Requirements engineering in Software Engineering, and have are looking for a research partner, Please go ahead and contact me!
